Coming from an isolated Tasmanian town, I had never experienced anything quite like the Indigenous Australian Engineering School before. The IAES gave me the opportunity to meet and learn from skilled professionals, visit sites and headquarters where innovations are made daily, and see first-hand the technologies and processes that shape the engineering industry. My perspective on engineering was broadened considerably as I was shown the inner workings of an enormous variety of jobs in the field. Every activity in the event was fun and useful. It was eye-opening to see how far a career in engineering can take students like myself. Thanks to the IAES, I have the confidence to study Software Engineering at the University of Sydney, and the knowledge and resources to be involved with the industry.
